I am. The weirdest are the ones that almost in plain view in busy areas, yet people do not find them. Like the micro-caches in cities. Some are very clever!

Question by Michael D: Algebra homework question?
Jessica and Zoe leave their houses at the same time to reach a geocache but since Zoe lives further away than Jessica she travels 22mph faster than Jessica. Their combined distance traveled is 26 miles. If both women arrive at the geocache after 30 minutes find their average speeds.

thanks for the help!

Best answer:

Answer by Julius N
jessica’s speed = x

.5 x + .5 ( x+22 ) = 26
.5x+.5(x+22)=26
.5x+.5x+11-26 = x-15 = 0
x-15 = (-5)(-.2x+3)
Roots: x= 15 mph

Zoe’s speed is 37 mph

I may be able to help you. Can you give me more information? I solved a puzzle that was similar in nature, and it was really about using a book as a reference. For instance, I used Treasure Island. The first number was the Chapter (alternatively, it could be a page), and the second number was the word (alternatively, it could be a letter). Are there any hints on the geocache page that might lead you to a particular book like that?
