A Windows Mobile Smartphone, Motorola Q was first released on the 31st of May 2006. It differs from Verizon’s flagship phone, the Treo 700w, in that the MOTO Q is thinner and runs on Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone Edition and lacks the touch screen support. It also has a landscape screen and makes us of a thumbwheel on the right side of the unit which is similar to industry leader the Blackberry.

The Motorola Q is a CDMA model with 800/1900-MHz bands and has CDMA 2000 and CDMA 2000 EV-DO networks. It uses an Intel Xscale PXA272 312 MHz processor. It runs on the standard mobile version of Microsoft Windows 5.0 smartphone edition which is optimized for Microsoft Exchange 2003 and has a number of different third party email solutions which enables a broader set of corporate email functions.

The Motorola Q is also incredibly thin at 11.5mm and also features a full QWERTY thumb board as well as a 5-way navigation button and a thumb wheel. The MOTO Q can also capture and playback video clips. Connectivity is not a problem when you have three options the Bluetooth, IrDA and mini-USB. You can also send and receive MMS messages.

It also comes with a 1.3 megapixel camera that includes photo lighting and a number of special effects. It also has 7 levels of brightness, 5 options for photo resolutions, 4 levels of zoom, and 6 white balance options ranging from automatic, sunny, cloudy, indoor home, indoor office and night. There are also 3 different camera modes ranging from normal, burst and timer.

Listening to music on the Motorola Q is a breeze as it supports a number of different audio formats such as iMelody, MIDI, MP3, AAC, WAV, WMA, WAX as well as QCELP. The phone also has stereo speakers built in to make listening to music a fun time. The MOTO Q also supports a number of image formats such as GIF87a, GIF89a, JPEG, WBMP, BMP and PNG formats.

If you want to play videos, then the MOTO Q is a great device to use. The phone can play H.263, MPEG4, GSM-AMR, AAC and WMV. With is large high resolution display, 320×240 pixels, which can duplicate 65k colors watching these videos wouldn’t be any hassle at all.

The Motorola Q also has the ability to synchronize itself via USB or Bluetooth to Microsoft Outlook or to the Microsoft Exchange Server database allowing the user to synchronize contacts, emails, tasks and calendar appointments.

In terms of power, the MOTO Q is powered by a Li-ion battery which provides 4 hours of talk time and 192 hours of standby.
