HTC MOGUL Review

A supposedly newer and better version of the P4000 Titan, the HTC Mogul
comes as the replacement for the PPS-6700 from Sprint’s roster and the XV-6700 for Verizon. A hefty package of ingenious features and options all packed into a small phone. Even with a full QWERTY keyboard, this lovely piece of technology still manages to keep it all in a medium sized package. The question that’s hanging on everyone’s head is if the Mogul can provide an equally strong performance to balance out all the great features it has.
Let’s start with the camera which is a 2 mega pixel unit. There is flash, a great addition, but since it is not a xenon flash, its range is rather limited. So when taking pictures in the dark, it could be useful but the use for it decreases the farther the object is. One great thing is that it only takes about 2 seconds to start the camera up. About a total of 4 photos can be capture within a span of 10 seconds which is absolutely wonderful! The quality of the picture is decent, the nearer you are to the object the better the turn out of the photo. But since it lacks an auto focus, most of the photos were indeed out of focus.
As with most phones these days, the HTC Mogul comes with the mobile version of Windows Media Player which plays both audio and video. The supported audio formats include MP3, WMA as well as WAV files. You can view your song files according to the artist who sang it, genre and album. As for the supported video files the list includes, MPEG4/H.263, WMV as well as 3GP. The quality of playback for the 3GP files is rather low. A great thing to note is the fact that there was no skipping during playback even though the processor is not considerably fast.
Listening to music using the HTC Mogul is quite a decision process in itself. You have 3 options which include using the speaker on the back of the phone, the USB or 2.5mm headset or using the Bluetooth headsets. The speakers produce great sound even with its size, you can turn the volume up but the vocals can be easily drowned by the instruments. Using the headsets might be a better option because even at the maximum volume everything sounds clear ad precise. As for the Bluetooth option, while not terrible, is the last on the list of choices. There is an occasional echo when listening and sometimes the music comes in crackling. But it is a good replacement to the other options.
The HTC Mogul can also use Skype applications for VoIP calls. When using the Mogul as a standard mobile phone, it works amazingly! Reception is both clear and strong. In terms of power, there is a talk time of 3.33 hours with a standby time of 228 hours but after the 30% mark has been reached the battery seems to drain out rather quickly.
