E-TEN GLOFIISH M800 Review
Considered to be the most advanced model in E-TEN’s roster of smartphones, the Glofiish
M800 is an upgrade from its predecessor, the X800. The Glofiish M800 comes with a side-sliding QWERTY keyboard and combined with its many excellent features, the M800 is like a dream come true for all tech junkies out there. In terms of software, the ETEN M800 is another Windows Mobile 6 Professional phone looking at it from this vantage it is an exact copy of the X800. The Glofiish M800 has an M-Desk Menu already loaded to the phone, which is the same with all the other ETEN models. To activate the M-Desk menu, just double tap the QuickBar button. The shortcut will re-direct you to the other menus that the phone has, this menu is divided into four tabs namely:
1) Phone
2) PDA
3) Fun
4) System
With phones getting more and more advanced at each new model comes, simply using your mobile phone for talking seems to be no longer just the only option. The new Windows Mobile phones like the Glofiish M800 are like mini computers and can be used for browsing the internet as well as GPRS and EDGE. But it seems that what most people really look at when choosing phones are its camera and multimedia capacities. M800, like other smartphones can’t exactly be proud of its camera. It has one simply because every single phone out there has one but that doesn’t mean it delivers the best quality photos.
First off patience is needed as it takes quite a bit of time to start the camera’s interface. It also comes with the standard settings such as the different lighting modes, white balance, portrait or landscape orientations as well as the photo effects which vary from negative, gray, retrospective and the mirror effect which is probably the most interesting. You can also opt to use the camera as a camcorder but since the frame rate is quite slow, the quality of the videos are quite bad as well. As for its multimedia functions, the Glofiish M800 comes with the standard mobile version of your PC’s Windows Media Player. The player supports MP3, WMA and WAV audio formats. It also comes with a built in FM-tuner which is quite old-school but is a great addition, nonetheless.
The M800 also comes with a built-in GPS receiver and the newest, most recent SIRF II chipset. The SIRF II allows for increased GPS sensitivity as well as allowing it to function in an indoor space, in canyons or even in places with dense foliage. This function would come extremely helpful if you’re the kind of person who gets lost, anywhere.
So, is the M800 worth getting? Well, that depends. If you’re looking for a smartphone, then the M800 is a great device. It might not be the fastest or the prettiest but it is one of the few models out there with a high-resolution display as well as a QWERTY keyboard.
