The macro picture is a composite constructed from several photographs taken using extension tubes on a cheap camera (and with the device locked in place with a tripod). The rings allow close focusing, but without control of the opening, “greater” lens aperture by default, and therefore a very shallow depth of field results. Using Photoshop to edit an image in layers it was possible to keep some details of the top and sides of the wheel, and in much of the base.
